San Marcos High School is gaining ground with other schools in not only the Unified School District, but schools all over North County. The 2007-2008 school year has been an impressive year for the high school's sports teams and groups around campus. On top of that, there is still about a third of the year left to further exceed in recognition.

The Knights football team improved greatly this season. Not only did the Varsity team get a few victories under their belt, but the games they didn't win were close calls that had the competition scared. The Freshman football team went undefeated this year. That means good news for the JV and Varsity team in the following few years.

The Drama department at SMHS has improved over the past few years. Both this and last school years have put on productions. Last year being James and the Giant Peach, and on April 13 there the drama class will put on a double feature production of Juvie and 10,000 Baskets.

San Marcos High band team expanded this year with hordes of eager freshman joining the team. The advisor Mr. Armstrong expanded the band's percussion ensemble, they even preformed in a festival in Chicago, Illinois that was national invitation only, just last weekend.

Above all, the San Marcos Basketball teams have earned the most recognition. The Varsity team went to the semi-finals in CIF this season. They even almost played in the Cox Arena in San Diego! Not only that, the basketball team this season achieved more wins this year than they have in the past decade. The Woman's Basketball team also made it to the CIF Finals. They went last season as well.

During the San Diego County fires this past October, evacuees took refuge at the San Marcos High School agricultural farm. FFA (Future Farmers of America) students helped the evacuees and took care of any animals or pets they may have brought with them. Within the next few weeks, the Ag Farm will receive the rest of the animals that will be eligible for students to purchase and take care of. As always, the FFA students, along with supervisor Mr. Gaibe, will bring their animals and plants to the annual Del Mar Fair for competition this summer.

This school year has been for the most part a banner year for San Marcos High School. Not only did some of the school's groups, clubs, and teams get the school recognized, but paved the way for further recognition in upcoming years. SMM
